One Nine Weeks Down... Three More to Go!

Parents and students,

We've made it through the writing process (Prewriting, Drafting, and Revision) as well as Narrative writing. Most students are doing great work!

Our next unit will be intense essay writing. We will be getting into argumentative writing as well as team debates, which students are always great at! I can't wait! We will also try to get a research paper in, so we will be talking about some do's and do not's when it comes to conducting research. Both of these skills are essential for students as they progress through life; they will HAVE to learn how to use evidence to argue their points, and they will have to learn how to research topics. When researching though, you know as well as I do that there are some websites that are not reliable when it comes to getting accurate information. For that reason, this can become a very hot topic and incorporate terms such as "plagiarism."

If you have any questions as we progress through the year, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best reguards,

Mrs. King

Welcome Back!

Students and parents, after a nice Summer vacation, I am excited for this year to start! I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. As the language teacher, I will be assigning many writing assignments as well as projects and grammar homework assignments. All of this work will help prepare each student for the writing assessment (by that time, all students will have several pieces and types of writing projects completed and feel more confident in their writing abilities). Stay positive, put forth the best effort, and be open to learning new ways of writing; everything else will work itself out!

"People on the outside think there’s something magical about writing, that you go up in the attic at midnight and cast the bones and come down in the morning with a story, but it isn't like that. You sit in back of the typewriter and you work, and that’s all there is to it."
– Harlan Ellison

Parents, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Some of the homework may seem challenging, and you may not remember how to do it yourself. If you have a desire to help your child and cannot, let me know and I will find youtube videos or tutorials that can help. If you have any other questions, you can call the school and leave a message for me to return, or you may send an email. I will either respond before school, during my planning, lunch, or after school.

Thank you,

Mrs. King
